Description |
| Surrounded by mountains and forests, the munipality of Temascaltepec is located in a beautiful ravine where it seems |

History |
| Temascaltepec means in nahuatl "Hill of the temascales(tream baths)". Hist first inhabitants were Matlazincas, who |
| were among the few pre-hispanic peoples to know how to work, to mold a to forge the metallic minerals that are very |
| common in this region. |
| Vas a result of this natural wealth, important mining sites were established to extract silver, gold, zinc lead and copper |
| at colonial times, Temascaltepec together with the municiaplities of Sultepec, Zacualpan an Taxco in the state of |
| Guerrero, was part of the so called "silver province". In 1858 Temascaltepec acquired the category of Villa. |

Real de Arriba |
| In the proximities to Temascaltepec, at scarce 5 kms. at the southe of the municipal administrative center it is located |
| this beautiful colonial place. It is a small town that conserves old large houses with roofs of red tile, balconies and big |
| windows of colonial architecture. In the proximities there are ruins of abandoned mines that produced minerals of grate |
| value in a former time; a small and well traced square in which you can distinguish its anciente church of the XVIII century, |
| or baroque style, whose interior shows an interesting Churriguresque altarplace which gives us sensation of being in another time. |
| Traveling by these place will allow you to move at the time of the mining explotation and he will also be able to enjoy |
| the pleasing landscape that surrounds it. |
Sanctury of the Monarch Butterfly - Piedra Herrada |
| In November and December, millions of butterflies cross inmense distances to get to the different sanctuaries located |
| in the State of Mexico and Michoacan, where they stay until their return trip in February. Not all the sanctuaries are |
| open to the public, these one called Piedra Herrada (Shod Stone), offers guided visits. To walk by a forest that fells |
| alive between the murmur caused by the fluttering of the butterflies, is an unforgettable experience. There are routs |
| with local guides that will give you valuable information about the butterflies. |
